What kind of hydraulic fluid goes in a New Holland tractor?
MULTI G is a multi-purpose fluid that has been recommended in New Holland and Ford oper- ator manuals for many years. It’s recommended for current low-and medium horsepower trac- tors and loader backhoes. It helps ensure the best performance of your transmission, PTO clutches, wet brakes and hydraulic system.
Can engine oil be used for hydraulic oil?
It is therefore very common practice for multigrade engine oil to be used as hydraulic fluid in skid-steer loaders. Modern multigrade engine oils also use detergent additives to help ‘clean’ the engines that they are designed for. The general consensus is that this is also a benefit for most hydraulic systems.
What is the difference between engine oil and hydraulic oil?
Hydraulic oils are expected to have low compressibility, predictable friction and viscosity stability. Engine oils are intended to have high resistance to heat, resistance to absorption of fuels and chemical compounds produced during combustion.
What can be used as hydraulic fluid?
Common hydraulic fluids are based on mineral oil or water. Examples of equipment that might use hydraulic fluids are excavators and backhoes, hydraulic brakes, power steering systems, automatic transmissions, garbage trucks, aircraft flight control systems, lifts, and industrial machinery.

Is New Holland oil out of line?
So the New Holland brand of oil isn’ t that far out of line for normal prices and you are getting the recommended oil.
What is oil additive package?
Oils additive packages are engineered to be compatible with the seals and adhesives used by the equipment company. At least once a year we get in a tractor that somebody has tried to “save a few bucks” by buying cheapie fluid and the repiar bill always ammount to at least lifetimes “savings”.
Is there such a thing as standard hydraulic fluid?
Not to give you a smart answer but there is no such thing as “standard hydraulic fluid”. There are “universal” fluids which are made to meet many manufactorers specifications but each “universal” fluid does not meet all of them. 134 is pretty generic but there are huge differences in base oil stocks. In no case would R&O hydraulic oil sub.
What fluid does a 1995 Ford 2120 use?
My ’95 ford 2120 specifies Ford Spec 134 hydraulic fluid. As I look at fluids at NAPA, O’Reilly and Orschlein’s, the fluids state “meets Ford 134b/c or 134D.
What is the original spec for a tractor?
The original spec was M2C134, which was superseded by M2C134B, which in turn was superseded by M2C134C, which again was superseded byM2C134D, which is the current spec. Since your tractor was made when the original spec for it was plain old M2C134, then it should be fine with any fluid that meets any of those specs.
What is the weight of tractor fluid?
Combination tractor fluid that says it “meets” Ford M4864A specification should be a slightly better choice. This is also usually sold as 80 or 90 weight.
Why do we change hydraulic fluid?
Water in the hydraulic fluid is very bad. First, it causes rust and corrosion. Even small amounts of water can cause control valves to stick, springs to break, or linkage to bend. The main reason we replace the fluid is the amount of water that eventually has mixed with it. Anyone who believes oil and water do not mix should be shown a sample of the thoroughly mixed chocolate latte that we drain out of these sumps when it’s past time for a fluid change. Working the tractor gets the fluid very warm. Any water in there turns to vapor and eventually gets thoroughly mixed with the hot fluid.
What type of oil should I use for a tractor?
A premium synthetic that says it “MEETS” NH-410B (M2C-134D) is much thinner than 80 or 90 weight gear oil. It’s like a 10-30 multigrade motor oil thickness. This means it works better as a year-round fluid. No warm-up needed on cold winter mornings to get the lift to work. No problems with cavitation for my live hydraulics external pumps. Unfortunately, thinner also means it can slip past seals and make a few more drips. A weak lift may not work at all with synthetic fluid. For a trailer queen, we would rebuild all the seals and stop the drips. My tractors are working tractors. I don’t mind if they mark their territory with an occasional drip. If a leak gets worse than a few drips, fix it.
Can you flush a hydraulic pump with diesel fuel?
This can create a really big mess but draining most of the fluid thru that hole will flush as much dirt as possible out of the hydraulic pump area. Some people recommend flushing the system with kerosene or diesel fuel. If you plan to flush it anyway, drain the plugs in any order you want.
